SONIC AEROSOL
Treatable pathologies: It is a specific treatment for rhinosinusitis and an adjuvant in the treatment of catarrhal otitis media.
Methodology : It differs from standard aerosol therapy due to important changes that make this type of treatment much more specific. First, it is performed with a special fork that blocks the nostrils: when pressed around the nose, the pressure of the aerosol flow is transmitted to all the recesses of the nasal cavity. The second characteristic is the slight positive pressure applied to the aerosol particles. Finally, at regular intervals, the particles are subjected to vibrations via a flow of sound waves at a frequency of 100 Hertz, thus increasing the thermal gas's ability to reach the paranasal sinuses and middle ear. During the sonic aerosol, the patient must swallow frequently: this maneuver closes the posterior communication between the nose and throat, causing an increase in pressure in the nasal cavity and allowing the aerosol to enter the paranasal sinuses and middle ear.
Duration: approximately 10-12 minutes.
